Highlights Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo & Sacred Sites

  • Church of Abu Serga (Saint Sergius and Bacchus Church) – Built over the cave where the Holy Family is believed to have taken refuge during their time in Cairo.

  • The Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqa Church) – One of Egypt’s oldest churches, built above a Roman fortress in the 3rd century.

  • St. George’s Church – A stunning Greek Orthodox church with a deep connection to Coptic Christian history.

  • The Virgin Mary’s Tree (Matariya) – A sacred sycamore tree said to have provided shade for the Holy Family, with a well from which they drank.

Day 2: Wadi El Natron Monasteries

  • Wadi El Natron – A historic desert region known as the birthplace of Christian monasticism, dating back to the 4th century.

  • Monastery of St. Macarius – Founded in 360 AD by St. Macarius the Great, still home to Coptic monks today.

  • Monastery of St. Pishoy – Contains the relics of St. Pishoy, who was known for his deep faith and devotion.

  • Monastery of the Syrians (Deir El-Surian) – Famous for its well-preserved Coptic manuscripts and stunning wall paintings.

  • Monastery of St. Baramos – One of the oldest monasteries in Egypt, believed to have been founded by monks who came from Rome.


  • Return to Cairo & overnight stay


Day 3: Journey to Zagazig & Belbeis


  • Tel Basta (Zagazig) – An ancient city where the Holy Family is said to have been welcomed and miraculously provided with a fresh water spring.

  • Virgin Mary’s Church (Belbeis) – A historic church where the Holy Family is believed to have rested under a large tree, which stood for centuries before it fell.


  • Drive back to Cairo & overnight stay


Day 4: Asyut – The Final Destination of the Holy Family


  • Deir Al Muharraq Monastery (Asyut) – Known as the "Second Bethlehem," this monastery is built around a church that dates back to the 1st century AD, marking the Holy Family’s longest stay in Egypt (about six months).

  • Monastery of Al Qusiya – A sacred site where the Holy Family is believed to have passed through on their way south.


  • Return to Cairo & overnight stay

Day 5: Departure

  • Free morning for shopping or optional visits.

  • Transfer to Cairo International Airport for departure.
